Farmhouse Extension, Home Office , Utility & Boot Room

Northwood, Shropshire

The Brief: To demolish an existing extension and create a new extension to encompass a utility room, boot room and home office in keeping with the existing buildings.

Challenges: The traditional brick build period farmhouse had extensive surrounding gardens and farm buildings set in just under 6 acres. The original farmhouse was quirky and intimate and the later addition classically proportioned but the extension was dark, cluttered, cramped and not cohesive.

Outcomes: A better use of space that fulfilled the brief using traditional materials in keeping with the existing farmhouse while accommodating Louise’s traditional, classic style and Rory’s more contemporary taste. The final space incorporated large windows and skylights to maximize natural light.

Services: Architectural design, planning application, building regulations design, interior design.

Future Plans 2020: To add an orangery extension to the main house for a kitchen and convert the barns to create holiday accommodation and a workshop and conference centre for Rory’s veterinary surgery business.

Leanne from House Gecko was fantastic from the very start. She drew up plans for our office, utility and boot room and also helped us to plan out the interior. It was really useful using an architectural designer as she was able to solve space problems in innovative ways.

We would highly recommend House Gecko and will definitely be using Leanne to help with our future kitchen and orangery project.
